From openmadrigal-users@openmadrigal.org Tue Mar 19 15:08:56 2002 From: openmadrigal-users@openmadrigal.org (William Rideout) Date: Tue, 19 Mar 2002 10:08:56 -0500 Subject: [OpenMadrigal-users] UI suggestions from B. Rideout's lunch seminar Message-ID: <3C975488.3BAE52CB@haystack.mit.edu> Just to keep a good record, I thought I'd document the UI suggestions I got during my lunch seminar of 3/12/2002 demoing the latest release of Madrigal: 1. Update the kind of data table so that Sondrestrom kinds of data are not shown as numbers. (I'll email Tony for this information). 2. Modify the pop-up windows that describe parameters to include unit information along with the parameter descriptions now given. 3. In summarizeCedarFile, give Az and El information for each record - convert kinst, kindat, and krec to words (or drop some or all?) Also display catalog and header information. 4. In summarizeCedarFile, modify phrase "Parameter Summary" to "Summary of parameters in this file" 5. Add email links to openmadrigal-users@openmadrigal.org to allow easy user feedback at strategic places. 6. Allow users to enter comments about a given experiment (or file?) on madExperiments.cgi page, and presumably display or give link to old comments from that page. Some other suggestions I received later: 7. Provide links back to madInvent.cgi without using back button. 8. Provide parameter validation on isprint page (disabled due to slow response on hyperion, but could be implemented in a different way). Again, everyone should feel free to post any ideas I missed to this mailing list. I mean neutral atmosphere parameters (TNM, NO2L, NOL, NN2L etc.) - did we use MSIS86, MSIS90 or MSIS00? Another example would be geomagnetic field strength and/or magnetic coordinates - which version of IGRF was used? This information could be displayed in the same pop-up window and give users clear understanding that we do not measure these parameters but use models. Speaking about MSIS - I do not see MSIS AP/KP history switch with the new interface. If it is indirectly determined, then give a brief description of method used or even just a link to a separate page (we don't seem to have such a page so far?) describing the method, the model (MSIS), and the references. I did a major cleanup to remove old files which are not part of the current distribution, and hence were not being replaced when Madrigal was installed. It's possible that there are still links to some of these. Let me know if you come across a link which doesn't work any more. We should make a decision for the model directory locations as we are expecting to have more local models in the future.
